  • ADL to ZOA: diverging Jewish rhetoric under Trump

    Ben Sales|Dec 2, 2016

NEW YORK (JTA)—Thirty years ago, it would have been safe to say the American Jewish community agreed on the need to fight for Israel and against anti-Semitism. It may still be true that most American Jews support those causes. But now, apparently, some people aren’t so sure what either of those things mean. One Jew’s support of Israel is another’s attack on the Jewish state. And as we’ve seen this week, one Jew’s condemnation of an alleged promoter of anti-Semitism is another’s smear on a purported defender of the Jews. Nowhere did this emer...

The reiterations of support signify a concern growing among Jewish organizations about deepening partisan differences on what has been since 2002 a rare area of broad political consensus in Israel and...

ISRAEL21c-Celebrity endorsements are a big boon for brands. Just ask SodaStream, the Israeli company touted by Hollywood beauty Scarlett Johansson and "Game of Thrones" star Thor Bjornsson. Ask HOT, the Israeli telecom for which Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo filmed a funny TV commercial. But other stars support Israeli startups with their dollars rather than their faces, or sometimes with both. Today's celebs no longer look down on techies, explains Gil Eyal, founder of Tel Aviv- and...

  • Book Review: The fighting spirit of Jewish boxers

    Peter Wood|Dec 2, 2016

"Max Baer and Barney Ross: Jewish Heroes of Boxing" by Jeffrey Sussman (Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield, $36.) Jewish boxers? The bravery and tenacity of the Jewish people, especially as heroic...
