Central Florida's Independent Jewish Voice
It is Temple Israel’s tradition to award the honors of Hatan Torah and Kallat Bereishit to congregants who have provided outstanding service in the areas of ritual, educational and/or spiritual life of the congregation. This year’s honorees, who were selected by the entire synagogue membership under the auspices of the ritual committee, are Steve Berg and Mollie Savage. These honorees were announced by President Arlene van de Rijn during the Yom Kippur services. They were recognized during the Simchat Torah service where Steve was given an aliyah for the last verse of Deuteronomy (Hatan Torah) and Mollie was given an aliyah for the first verse of Genesis (Kallat Bereishit).
Berg serves as Men’s Club president and is active on many committees. Savage is extremely active in Sisterhood, works on various committees and serves as an ongoing volunteer in the synagogue office. Each of them has given unselfishly to Temple Israel, going well beyond the call of duty. Because of their hard work and dedication, the congregation has benefited tremendously. Mazel Tov from the entire membership to the honorees.
