Alvin L. Michael of Maitland, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his residence. He was 85 years old. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he was born on Feb. 26, 1928, to the late Benjamin and Beatrice Rapkin Michael. He served in the U.S. Air Force and later attended Case Tech, now Case Western Reserve University, becoming an engineer in the aerospace industry. On April 4, 1954, in Cleveland, he married the former Shirley Weiss, his wife of 59 years, who survives him. In 1963 the family relocated to the Orlando area from St. Petersburg.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Michael is survived by his son, Kenneth (Susie) Michael of Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughters, Karen Marks of Bethesda Md., and Beth Marks of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Elaine (Len) Jaffe of Jamesville, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Aaron Rubinger officiating. The family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Michael be made to Congregation Ohev Shalom, 600 Concourse Parkway So, Maitland 32751 or Jewish Pavilion, PO Box 160056, Altamonte Springs 32716-0056. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, Orlando.
