Renovation-celebration grand opening of JCC courtyard playground

The Roth Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando plans to celebrate the successful completion of its Roth JCC Renovation Project on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. at the Roth JCC’s courtyard playground. The courtyard playground, located inside their Richard S. Adler Early Childhood Learning Center, represents the last major project to be completed within the fundraising endeavor.

The project was launched in mid-2012 with the purpose of enhancing the overall experience of the JCC. Projects included updating the swimming area—resurfacing the two pools, adding shade structures to the kiddie pool and sitting areas, renovating the deck surface, installing new fencing and landscape, and updating the outdoor locker rooms; installing new auditorium dividers; resurfacing outdoor basketball courts and installing new glass backboards; resurfacing tennis courts; and renovating the preschool courtyard playground.

All five of these major projects were successfully completed, thanks to the $359,625 contributed by 81 donors, as of Nov. 30.

The project was chaired by Daniel Coultoff and Dr. Andrew Kleiman, and supported by committee members, Marty Berman, Mark Chaet, M.D., and Jodi Krinker.

“We are thrilled with the success of the Roth JCC Renovation Project,” said Coultoff.  “Through improving the aesthetics and functionality of our JCC facilities, and creative programming, we are already experiencing increased usage and expect further growth as a vibrant community hub.”

In recent months, the JCC has capitalized on its updated facilities by creating partnerships with local organizations to provide a swim team and aquatics services, as well as a new tennis program. Additionally, the renovated outdoor basketball courts have provided much-needed space for youth basketball practice, and have been used frequently by other local Jewish organizations for programming.

The Jan. 7 celebration will feature a grand opening of the renovated courtyard playground. The evening is free and open to the community, and guests are encouraged to bring their young children to enjoy the playground’s offerings. The JCC will be providing complimentary snacks and drinks. Those interested in attending the celebration should RSVP to Robin Merkel at RobinM@orlandojcc.org or at 407-621-4036.
