Eivor Flaxer of Maitland, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs. She was 74 years old. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, she was born on April 22, 1939, and immigrated to the U.S. after attending Stockholm University.
In New Jersey, she worked as the nanny for the children of the president of Volvo USA. Mrs. Flaxer later moved to Miami where she met and married her husband of 50 years, David Flaxer, who survives her. Eivor and David relocated to Orlando in 1963, where they raised their children, Mark and Melissa. She was “Mor Mor” or bubbe to Tony Longobardo and Abby and Janine Flaxer. Her family also includes her sister Barbro, and brothers Ove and Ulf, all of whom reside in Sweden.
Mrs. Flaxer was a cosmetologist for the Jordan Marsh Department Store in Downtown Miami and later in Orlando. She was also a member of the choir at Congregation of Reform Judaism for more than 25 years and an original charter member of Hagar Viking Society of Central Florida. She played tennis, volunteered at a school library, and spoke and translated in five languages.
Funeral services were held at the Frank Pavilion at Temple Israel Cemetery with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating. Burial followed at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Gotha. The family requests contributions in memory of Eivor Flaxer to Jewish Family Service, 2300 Lee Road, Winter Park 32789.
