Army liberators speak at Temple Shalom's Holocaust remembrance event

Four U.S. Army liberators who were at Buchenwald, Dachau and nearby camps, as well as the Gardelegen massacre of Jews; Christian political prisoners and Christian Allied POWs will speak as part of Temple Shalom by the Villages’ annual Interfaith Holocaust Remembrance event.

The event will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, Lady Lake, FL 32159 (The Villages Florida, Spanish Springs) on April 29 at 4 p.m. (doors open at 3:30 p.m.). Admission is free.

The guest speakers, eyewitnesses to history, are all in their 80s and 90s and come from varied walks of life. They have remarkably clear memories, presentations and in some cases photographs they personally took. The Todah Memorial statue to the allied soldiers who liberated the camps, which has been exhibited globally, will also be on the display at the event.

The firsthand accounts of these WWII veterans represent the eyewitness testimony and humanity of the “greatest generation” whose numbers are now rapidly dwindling with time. This is an ideal and perhaps once in a lifetime last opportunity to learn about the Holocaust in a presentation by firsthand eyewitnesses.

For more information on this event including the speakers, their Army units and the WWII Holocaust related experience they will talk about see: http://www.templeshalomoxfordfl.org/holocaust_remembrance_event_2014.aspx

In addition to the 6 million European and Russian Jews murdered by the Nazi’s during the Holocaust of whom 1.3 million were children, 6 million Christians were killed including priests, reverends, pastors, nuns, academics, students and other civilians, Gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Gays, Lesbians, Blacks living in Germany, the handicapped and mentally ill, captured U.S. and allied soldiers.
