Obituary - HAROLD KARP

Harold Karp of Winter Springs, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Florida Hospital—Orlando. He was 90 years old. One of four sons, he was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 14, 1923, to the late Arthur and Rebecca Cohen Karp. Following high school he attended New York University for a year, leaving to enlist in the U.S. Army following the Pearl Harbor attack. He was sent to Europe, landing in France the day following D-Day. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded, receiving a Purple Heart. He returned to the U.S. in 1946 and married the former Sylvia Bluestein, his wife of 67-and-a-half years, who survives him.

Mr. Karp owned several automotive repair shops before they relocated to the Orlando area in April 1972.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Dr. Jeffrey (Diane) Karp of Clearwater and Bruce (Susan) Karp of Casselberry; his daughter Linda Karp of Altamonte Springs; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; and his brother, Herbert (Diana) Karp of Boynton Beach. A funeral service, with military honors, was held at the Ohev Shalom Pavilion with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating. Burial followed at the cemetery. The family requests contributions in memory of Harold Karp to Hadassah. Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
