Obituary - MADALEEN KAMENOFF

Madaleen Kamenoff passed away, Tuesday, Sept. 9. She was 88 years old. Madaleen was the daughter of Lillian and Harry Schulman. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, and came to Florida with her family when she was 3 years old. She grew up in Miami, where she was very active in B’nai B’rith Girls, USY and the Y.M.H.A. where she helped write the summer camp song that was their anthem for many years. She was a drum majorette in the Jewish War Veteran’s Drum and Bugle Corp, and marched in the inauguration in Tallahassee of Govenor Spessard Holland in 1941.

Upon graduation from Miami Senior High School, she attended the University of Miami. All of her life, Madaleen studied dancing and while attending the university, she became a professional dancer.

She married Jack [Shug] Kamenoff on March 16, 1947, and they were married for 61 years. She was a member of Temple Israel, a lifetime member of Hadassah, and a founder of the Jewish Community Center of Orlando. Madaleen loved playing bridge and mah jongg, and spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her son, Larry[Marcia] Kamenoff of Heathrow; daughters, Barbara Kushner of Miami, and Ellen Kamenoff of Longwood; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her sister, Phyllis Kamenoff of Longwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Ohev Shalom Pavilion with Rabbi Joshua Neely officiating. Internment followed at the Cemetery.

Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel handled all arrangements. The family requests that donations be made to Alpha I Foundation in care of John Kushner Family Fund, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Coral Gables, Fl. 33134
