Obituary - RUTH FRIEDMAN GOLDEY

Ruth F. Goldey of Altamonte Springs, passed away on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at Florida Hospital—Altamonte. She was 87 years old. Mrs. Goldey was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 23, 1927, to the late William and Ida Messey Friedman. She received her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and was married for 52 years to her late husband, Richard “Dick” Goldey when he passed away in 2000.

They moved from Pennsylvania in 1963, and lived for over 50 years in the Daytona Beach area where they owned and operated several hotels, including the Sea Spray Hotel in Daytona Beach Shores and later a hotel and pool supply company.

Mrs. Goldey was a former member of Temple Beth El in Daytona Beach and was a lifetime member of Hadassah and B’nai Brith. For many years, Ruth was a staff writer for the Halifax Register. When she moved to Horizon Bay in Altamonte Springs, she was active in their poetry group.

Mrs. Goldey is survived by her daughter Diane (Victor) First of Winter Springs; her sons, Jack (Beth) Goldey of Port Orange and Steven of South Florida; five grandchildren and four great-granchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Philip and David Friedman.

A graveside funeral service was held at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Daytona Beach with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating. The family requests contributions in memory of Ruth Goldey to the charity of choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
