Central Florida's Independent Jewish Voice
Congregation Ohev Shalom invites the Orlando Jewish Community to learn about and share the joys of Shabbat with the entire family. COS is sponsoring a Learner’s Shabbat Service and Ritual Fair on Feb. 21. The event is co-sponsored by the COS Ritual Committee and the Adult Education Committee.
The Learner’s service will be a non-traditional learning experience that will teach people the “choreography” of Jewish praying; how to properly perform an aliyah to the Torah and the reasons we recite the prayers that we do as well as learning some of the basic prayer.
The Learner’s Shabbat Service will be led by COS Senior Rabbi Aaron Rubinger and Cantor Alan Robuck and will begin at 10 a.m. in the COS sanctuary located at 613 Concourse Parkway South, Maitland, FL 32751.
At 11:30 a.m. attendees will join together for Kiddush and Hamotzi before going to a wonderful luncheon. A Ritual Fair will be conducted during luncheon with opportunities to learn about various rituals of our beautiful and rich faith tradition.
These will include:
Candle lighting / Had’lakat Neirot and Blessing of the Children
How to lift and dress the Torah
Mikveh and the occasions for mikveh
Havdalah
Learning the blessings for various foods and occasions
Mourning rituals including mourners’ kaddish
COS welcomes all to join us for this meaningful learning experience. For additional information, please contact us at 407-298-4650.
