A taste of Passover

Congregation Sinai Sisterhood will hold its fifth annual “A Taste of Passover” seder on March 19 at 12:30 p.m. at the synagogue, located at 03A N. Hwy 27 in Minneola. It will be an outreach event, as the women’s groups from three local churches will be invited to attend.

Sisterhood will lead its members and guests through an abbreviated seder meal, using a specially prepared 30-minute Haggadah (the book that tells the order of the story of the Exodus). There will be holiday foods which help explain the story, such as charoset (a wine mixture to symbolize the mortar used in making the pyramids), parsley (springtime), salt water (the tears), hard-boiled egg (new life), and of course, the matzoh (the unleavened bread that did not have a chance to rise for the quick escape from Egypt).

The eight-day holiday of Passover begins soon afterwards. Friday, April 3, is the night of the first Seder. Congregation Sinai will hold its congregational seder the second night, Saturday, April 4. For reservations for the April 4 seder, please contact Gwen Levy at 352-243-4890.
