A combination Purim party and 95th birthday celebration were held last week at the Sutton Home in Dr. Phillips where retired Rabbi Rudolph Adler resides. Twenty-one of the rabbi's dear friends from Congregation Ohev Shalom made the trip to Dr. Phillips to share in the celebration, which began with a Purim play. Rabbi Adler was the first to volunteer to play a part-that of Mordecai, with his real own daughter, Rae Wallach, playing Queen Esther. Others in the cast included Elaine Gamson, Fran Lepow, Mardi and Ron Shader. John Collins of Sutton Homes bravely offered to play the part of Haman. All enjoyed twirling their groggers at the mention of Haman's name. Afterwards, everyone danced and sang along with entertainer Nancy Waldman at the keyboard. A very special guest arrived to enjoy the fun-centenarian Myrtle Rutberg, long-time religious school teacher at COS.
The event was coordinated by Jewish Pavilion Program Director Gloria Green and Barbara Chasnov from Ohev Shalom with the guidance of Rae Wallach.
"Rabbi Adler's 95th birthday celebration was very touching and memorable for all of us fortunate enough to celebrate with him," Barbara Chasnov said.
"Thank you to all who made this so special for my Dad," said Wallach
