Agie Janovitz, age 85, of Longwood, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at Florida Hospital—Orlando. Agie was born in Secovce, Slovakia, on Nov. 6, 1929, to the late Adolph and Ilona Pollak Kritzler and was one of three children. The family immigrated to the United States through New York aboard the SS Aquitania in 1936, and went to Cleveland.
In January 1952, in Cleveland, she married her late husband, Alvin Janovitz, who passed away in 2002, after 50 years of marriage. Mrs. Janovitz retired after many years as a secretary for the City of Shaker Heights, Ohio. She and Al relocated to the Orlando area to be closer to their daughter and family, and became active members of Congregation of Reform Judaism.
Mrs. Janovitz is survived by her sons, Dr. Evan (Patti) Janovitz, of Cranbury, N.J., and Lee (Barbara) Janovitz of Beechwood, Ohio; her daughter Ilyse (Dr. Barry) Katz of Maitland; grandchildren Allana, Noah, Nathan (Stacie), Tyler (Kiki), Oliver, Frances (Jake Caudill), Jenny, Steven and Scott. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Elaine Colman of Cleveland and was predeceased by her brother, Emory Kritzler.
A graveside funeral service was held at the CRJ Cemetery with Rabbi Steven Engel and Cantor Jacqueline Rawiszer officiating.
