Temple Shalom will host a Holocaust Remembrance event, titled “Never Again! Has the World Learned,” at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in The Villages. Doors will open at 3 p.m.
It seems that we have not learned from the past. Still untold numbers of people have been, and continue to be, slaughtered around the world because of their religious beliefs.
Guest speakers Dr. Elizabeth B. White and Mitchell Bloomer are authorities on the Holocaust. They will explain how we can learn from the past and eliminate hate, negativity and bullying going forward.
Dr. White is the senior historian at the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. She is the resident expert on post Holocaust genocide, mass atrocities, hat language and crimes against humanity.
Bloomer is the principal instructor of the Holocaust Memorial Research and Education Center in Maitland, Fla. He is responsible for assisting the implementation of the Florida State mandate for Holocaust education.
Last year, more than 1200 people of all faiths attended the Holocaust event.
The Wildwood and South Sumter Middle Schools and The Villages Charter School held an essay and art contest in conjunction with this event. For more information, contact co-chairs Susan Feinberg at 352-633-5249 or 410-818-9510 or Phyllis Kalter, 352-775-2024 or 561-602-0567.
