Learn how to create family video biographies

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Orlando presents, “How to Create an Informational and Entertaining Family Video Biography” on Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. at The Roth Family JCC in Maitland.

Video and documentary producer Walter Schlomann will explain how to produce family video biographies and relate the excitement and satisfaction that come from documenting one’s family history in this way. 

Mr. Schlomann will share insights on recording family history and stories, covering topics such as research and preparation, conducting the interview, incorporating photographs, documents, and home movies. basic lighting, sound, and camera techniques, and how to create a video that is not only informative, but entertaining as well. 

Points of discussion include examples of the role of oral history in Jewish heritage, how our stories contribute to our continuity as a people, the trick memories play on us, and basic video production tips that will even come in handy the next time you record with your phone. Mr. Schlomann will show some examples of video biographies.

Walter Schlomann is an award winning video editor, director, and producer. He is the founder of Heritage Media Group (www.weconnectgenerations.com). His work includes documentaries, independent films, music videos, marketing films, commercials, and public service announcements. He has edited films that appeared on P.B.S., The History Channel, Biography Channel, Comedy Central and others. Rock starts have collaborated with Walter on projects. He has interviewed actors, artists, CEOs, physicians, scientists, veterans, educators, holocaust survivors, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs. 

Prior to the program, starting at 6:30 P.M., there will be time to network, meet fellow genealogists, or to receive free consulting assistance from a Jewish genealogy expert.

This meeting is open to the public. Cost for nonmembers is $5 and may be applied to membership dues.
