Igor Geller, age 79, of Altamonte Springs, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs. He was born on Oct. 26, 1936, in Kharkov, Ukraine, to the late Lev and Esther Uchtman Geller. While in Odessa, he met and married the former Vita Kreydina, his wife of 52 years, who survives him.
As a young Jewish couple, Igor and Vita were prevented from attending university, yet he earned a degree in civil engineering through the mail, and at the same time, Vita earned hers as a chemist. They and their extended families lived together in a small apartment while pursuing their careers.
In 1992, they emigrated from the Ukraine to the United States and in 1999 relocated to the Orlando area to be near their daughters and family. When they settled in Orlando, they became members of Congregation Ohev Shalom.
In addition to his wife, Igor is survived by his daughters, Yelena (Edward) Kotylar of Altamonte Springs and Svetlana (Sergei) Smolin of Apopka; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Geller of New York and Rita Berenstein of New York.
A funeral service was held at the Pavilion at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Aaron Rubinger officiating. In memory of Igor L. Geller the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
