Marjorie “Margie” Blau, age 90, passed away on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs. Margie was born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 9, 1926, to the late Myren and Bess Popkin Landsberg. In 1948, Margie and her late husband, Martin, who passed away in 2010, relocated to the Orlando area from Detroit. Aside from her early working career as an accountant, Margie was the consummate volunteer. Following their arrival in Orlando, Margie and Martin were part of the founding families of what was then, Congregation of Liberal Judaism. She worked and served on the boards of Orange County Volunteer Services, Florida Hospital Volunteers and Congregation of Reform Judaism. Margie also worked as a clergy aide and originated what has grown to become the CRJ Caring Committee.
Always the caring and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margie is survived by her son, James (Kathy) of Orlando; and daughters, Carole (Hilary) Brown of Tennessee and Sally Blau of Orlando. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Courtney, Emily (Luke), Millie, and Casey; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Juliana, Lila and Aly. She is further survived by her brother, Paul Landsberg of Detroit.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Leon Landsberg.
In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service was held at Congregation of Reform Judaism Cemetery, Gotha, with Rabbi Steven W. Engel officiating. She also requested that any memorial contributions be made to Congregation of Reform Judaism, 928 Malone Drive, Orlando 32810.
