Yaffa Magier, age 96, passed away at Horizon Bay—Altamonte Springs, on Wednesday, July 31, 2016. A native of Izza, Czechoslovakia, she was a Holocaust survivor, working as a laundress in Auschwitz. Her parents, Chaim and Blima Steinberg Lindenbaum, and two of her sisters perished. Following the Shoah, Yaffa made her way to Israel where she met and married her late husband, Martin. From Israel, they immigrated to the United States and ultimately moved to the Orlando area from Brooklyn in 1990.
In New York, Yaffa worked as a dressmaker and was active in the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union.
Yaffa is survived by her son, Sheldon (Eileen) of Altamonte Springs; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Rebecca. Her sole surviving sister, Sarah Wolvovitz, is also deceased.
A graveside service was held at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating. The family requests contributions in memory of Yaffa Magier be made to the Holocaust Memorial Research and Education Center, 851 Maitland Avenue, Maitland 32751.
