Abby Selman-Pait, age 57, of Orlando, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. One of three daughters of the late Barnett and Beatrice Millman Selman, Abby was born in Suffern, New York, on Nov. 22, 1958. Educated in New York, she had a passion for her students and teaching whether at Southwest Orlando Jewish Congregation, where she also served as president, or in the Orange County School System.
A woman of varied talents and interests, Abby loved the outdoors and was an avid kayaker. She was a talented artist—working as a scenic artist in her early career—and continued to enjoy painting when the opportunity presented itself. She also enjoyed the theatre and attended many productions at the Dr. P. Phillips Performing Arts Center. Above all, though, she was primarily a devoted mother to her two sons, David and Eric, who survive her, and a loving wife to her late husband, Allen, who passed away in 2004.
Abby is also survived by her sisters, Willyce (Harvey) Barr of Suffern, N.Y., and Shelley (Larry) Ruderman of Pomona, N.Y.
A funeral service was held in the sanctuary of Southwest Orlando Jewish Congregation with Rabbi Hillel Skolnik and Cantor Doug Ramsay officiating. Burial followed in the SOJC section at Ohev Shalom Cemetery.
In memory of Abby Selman-Pait, the family requests contributions to Southwest Orlando Jewish Congregation, 11200 S. Apopka-Vineland Road, Orlando, 32836, or the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, P.O. Box 23827, Tampa FL 33623-3827.
Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
