Congregation Beth Sholom welcomes 5777

With the coming of Rosh Hashanah, Jews around the world will celebrate the new year of 5777. According to the Jewish calendar, the world’s oldest calendar still in use today, the year 5777 will begin on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 2.

Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish High Holiday period, is a two-day celebration and includes the customs of sounding the “shofar” (a hollowed-out ram’s horn) and the eating of symbolic foods such as apples dipped in honey to evoke a “sweet new year.” The High Holidays end with Yom Kippur 10 days later.

Congregation Beth Sholom welcomes the local Jewish community to join us in observance of the 5777 High Holidays. Rabbi Karen Allen leads our service and combines a spiritual blending of Reform and Conservative Liturgies.

Services will begin on Sunday evening, Oct. 2nd at 7 p.m. and on the following Monday and Tuesday at 10 a.m. The synagogue is located at 315 North 13th Street in Leesburg, next to the Melon Patch Theater, with the entrance on Center Street.
