Tessie Abramson, age 94, of Sanford, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Nov. 9, 2016, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, she was one of four children born to the late Jacob and Sadie Cohen. She was married to the late Saul Abramson for 54 years when he passed away in July, 2003. They relocated to Sanford from New York in 1953, and owned and operated Sanford Carpet from 1953 until 1996. It was only then that they retired and sold the company to their son, Ira and his wife Barbara, who survive her.
An astute businesswoman, Tessie was known for her keen business sense and her sharp wit. They were part of a small group of Jewish business people who served the Sanford community and surrounding areas. Tessie took up golf to be able to accompany Saul while he played at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, where they belonged for many years. According to Ira, she was a Tiger Woods fan and followed every step of his career.
She was also the quintessential devoted and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Following her beloved Saul’s death, with the assistance of wonderful caregivers and the constant attention of Ira and Barbara, she was able to remain in her home.
In addition to Ira and Barbara, Tessie is survived by her grandson, Joel and his wife, Felicia. She was also predeceased by her brother, David, and sisters, Ruth and Esther.
Funeral services were held at the Pavilion at Ohev Shalom Cemetery followed by interment, with Rabbi David Kay officiating. In memory of Tessie Cohen Abramson, the family requests contributions to the Jewish Pavilion, 421 Montgomery Road, Suite 231, Altamonte Springs 32714. Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
