Helene R. Rubin, age 97, of Orlando, passed away at her residence on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Feb. 5, 1919, to the late Victor and Sarah Milstein Halushka. She attended William Paterson College in Wayne, New Jersey, receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.
Helene taught for many years in Dumont, New Jersey. She was the widow of the late Theodore Rubin who passed away in 2007. Her brothers Meyer Halushka and Mandel Halushka also predeceased her. She and her family relocated to the Orlando area in 1982 from Valley Cottage, New York. Up north, Helene was president of her synagogue’s sisterhood in Ft. Lee, New Jersey. A Life Member of Hadassah, she was the former publicity chair of the Central Florida Hadassah.
Helene is survived by her daughter, Dr. Vicki Rubin Kelley of Brookline, Mass.; and her grandson, Andrew (Michelle) Kelley of Belmont, Mass.; and granddaughters, Helen Kelley and Bridget Kelley of Brookline.
A graveside service was held at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
