Arlene Sommers, age 88, of Longwood, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the Mayflower Health Care Center. Arlene was born in Yonkers, New York, on Nov. 7, 1928, to the late Abraham and Celia Brickman Silverman. She married Bernard D. Sommers, her husband of nearly 67 years who survives her, on Nov. 24, 1950, in New York.
During her working career, Arlene was a court reporter. In 1959, the Sommers relocated to the Orlando area from New York.
In addition to her husband, Arlene is survived by her daughters, Mara Sommers of Miami and Andrea Sommers of Ft. Lauderdale. She was also the loving grandmother to Ariel, Mallory and Ian. Her sisters, Rhoda (Irwin) Gellen of New York and Linda (Larry) Wasserberger of Chicago also survive her.
A funeral service was held at the Pavilion at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Arnold Siegel of Jewish Family Services officiating. Burial followed in Ohev Shalom Cemetery.
