Obituary - DORA ACKERMAN

Dora Ackerman, age 97, of Altamonte Springs, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Brookdale Island Lake in Longwood. Mrs. Ackerman was born in Romania on Oct. 14, 1919, to the late Usher and Esther Seltzer Siries. She was the widow of the acclaimed Cantor Shabtai Ackerman, who passed away in 2007 and was Cantor Emeritus of Congregation Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield, Mich., and Temple Israel in Deerfield Beach.

A homemaker, she relocated to the Orlando area from South Florida in 2014 to be closer to her daughter and family.

Mrs. Ackerman is survived her daughter, Leah (Jerome) Freedman of Altamonte Springs; grandchildren, David (Audrey) Freedman, Amy (Patrick) Peck, and Dr. Jeffrey (Melissa) Freedman; and great-grandchildren Abby, Lilly, Ian, Elliot, Spencer and Logan. She is also survived by her sister, Clara Yarkony, and was predeceased by her son Fred Ackerman.

A graveside service was held at Beth Abraham Cemetery in Ferndale, Mich. The family requests contributions in memory of Dora Ackerman to Jewish Family Services, 2100 Lee Road, Winter Park 32789. Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel. 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
