Central Florida's Independent Jewish Voice
"Making a difference in the lives of others"-This has been my personal motto for years. That said, I am grateful that my position as a program director at The Jewish Pavilion has afforded me multiple opportunities to facilitate this motto. For me, I feel that there is something quite unique and very special when I connect with the elders. I continue to have the privilege of experiencing some truly powerful and wonderful interactions with the residents at local assisted-living, independent, rehab and memory-care facilities.
I am humbled and honored to share a touching and heartfelt story with you. I shall never forget the woman who held onto my hand: As I walked through the room, leading our group in prayer and song, I laid my hand on this woman's shoulder as I approached her. She immediately placed both of her hands on top of mine and then she began to weep. She held onto my hand very tightly, she pressed it against her shoulder, she did not want to release me or lose that connection. Choking back my own tears, I took a deep breath and sang even louder and stronger... as to acknowledge her at that very moment.
Taking and making the time to spend with a loved one or even a stranger really does matter. I invite you to join us as we welcome the New Year with the Jewish residents who reside within our community homes. Come out and volunteer with us at The Jewish Pavilion! Celebrate Life with us as we continue to... "Make a difference in the lives of others"!
