Berny Raff, age 91, of Longwood, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Quality Health Care Center in Winter Garden. “Super Berny” to everybody who met and knew him, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on Feb. 14, 1927, to the late Harry and Elsie Savidonsky Raff. Berny served in the United States Navy during World War II. After relocating to the Orlando area in 1975 for a sales and marketing position in the education field, he joined Congregation Ohev Shalom and quickly became president of the Seniors Group, a position he held for more than 30 years.
In 1988, Berny married the former Eleanor Benmeyer Gordon who predeceased him on June 1, 2013. They had been married for 28 years.
Berny is survived by his sons—Howard, and daughter-in-law, Andrea, of Connecticut and Ira of Minnesota; granddaughter Erin and husband Geoff Smith of Pennsylvania, and the numerous and countless friends that he considered family and loved with all his heart. Sisters Ethel Raff Gilman and Florence Raff Tunis of New Jersey had predeceased their brother.
The funeral service with Navy Military Honors was held at the Pavilion at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbis David Kay and Aaron Rubinger officiating. Interment followed in the cemetery.
