Central Florida's Independent Jewish Voice

Matchmaker, matchmaker, who wants a match?

Ruth Ort is passionate about hooking people up with a good match. A retired speech pathologist, she has been doing it for years in South Beach and since moving up to Central Florida, she has already found two people’s “soulmate.” In fact, she said she’s only had two “bombs” in all the matches she’s made—which are quite a few.

“I think this whole idea is very much an idea that should have been done already,” she told Heritage. “In Orthodox Jewish circles it is a shidduch (arranged marriage) and I am the shadchan (professional matchmaker).”

Ort’s matchmaking skills are uniquely for the over 50 crowd, and she is excited to announce two social events that she has planned with the support and help of Chabad of Greater Orlando’s DevorahLeah Dubov.

The first will be a Jewish Single Mingle for 50+ on Sunday evening, Feb. 24, between 7 and 9 at Chabad of Greater Orlando, 708 Lake Howell Road in Maitland. Enjoy wine and cheese among new friends. The event is free and open to all Jewish singles over 50 (all levels of observance are welcome). A cash wine bar is available.

Then on Monday Feb. 25 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. there will be another Jewish Single Mingle for 50+ (for those who prefer to drive in daylight hours). Enjoy coffee or tea and meet new friends. This event is also at Chabad of Greater Orlando. All that is asked is to RSVP (407-960-1080) to help prepare adequately for the event.

In addition to programs (DevorahLeah already has a singles dinner in mind), Ort has started a database of singles over 50. The database is highly confidential, is free to join, and she encourages everyone interested to please contact her to join. There are no fees involved for joining the database or attending the events (except for the wine bar).

To join the database or for more information, call Ruth at 407-960-1080 or ruthort@attnet.
