Louis Roche Brandes, age 94, of Orlando passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Dr. Brandes was born in Bacau, Romania on Dec. 9, 1924, to the late Joseph and Ioila Brandes. He complete his medical studies initially in Romania and moved to Israel in 1948, serving as a medical officer during the War of Independence in 1948. He left Israel in 1950, and moved to Italy where he completed further medical studies becoming a psychiatrist. In 1952, he returned to Israel to live. With the outbreak of the Suez Campaign in 1956, he once again entered the Israeli Army. In 1958, Dr. Brandes left Israel for the United States, establishing himself in New York. He remained there until 2017, when he relocated to the Orlando area to be closer to his son.
Dr. Louis Roche Brandes is survived by his sons, Dr. Jonathan (Jocelyn) Brandes of Orlando and Dr. Steven (Margo) Brandes of New York. He was predeceased by his sister, Jana Brandes, who is buried in Israel.
Funeral services and interment were held at Congregation Ohev Shalom Cemetery, with Rabbi Arnold Siegel of Jewish Family Services officiating.
