Jacqueline S. Opotzner, age 96, affectionately known as Jackie O., of Lake Mary, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Brookdale Senior Living in Lake Mary. She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Sept. 25, 1922, to the late Benjamin and Jennie Sachs Shapiro. A resident of Shelton, Conn., for over 60 years, she relocated to the Orlando area in 2017 to live near her older daughter, Susan Witt. Jackie was a graduate of Bessick High School in Bridgeport, Conn., and the Butler Business School paralegal program. She strongly believed in the importance of education and was proud of her children’s advanced degrees.
Jackie was a person of humility, who worked hard alongside her husband, Milton, in the family’s Elite Bakery, formerly in Shelton, Conn. She was an active member of Beth Israel Synagogue in Derby, Conn. Jacqueline was also a past president of Hadassah and served on the Connecticut Regional Board.
Jackie is survived by her son, Robert (Wendy) Opotzner of Ridgefield, Conn .; and her daughters, Susan (Richard) Witt of Lake Mary and Joan (Jayson) Brustman of Scarsdale, N.Y. She is also survived by her grandchildren—Jonathan (Amy) Witt of Maitland; Jessica Opotzner and Matthew Opotzner of Ridgefield, Conn .; and Allison Brustman and Marci Brustman of Scarsdale, N.Y .; and two great-grandchildren, Liliana Witt and Penelope Witt.
