Upcoming programs at the Holocaust Center during Yom HaShoah

The Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center’s Week of Remembrance begins on April 28 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. with the showing of the documentary film “Shanghai Ghetto,” produced and directed by Dana Janklowicz-Mann and Amir Mann. Narrated by Martin Landau, the film chronicles the story of Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany in the 1930s and their lives in the Shanghai Ghetto. This film was awarded the Audience Choice Award and the Human Rights Award at the 2002 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. After the movie there will be a “talk back” with Joanie Schirm and Mitch Bloomer.

The Yom Hashoah Commemoration will take place on Wednesday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Congregation of Reform Judaism 928 Malone Drive, Orlando. Stand with the community to celebrate the lives of local Survivors and say a prayer in remembrance of those they lost. This year’s program will feature Winter Park High School students in a dramatic performance of excerpts from Holly Mandelkern’s “Beneath White Stars.” Other program highlights include a candle lighting and responsive reading.

There will be an Interfaith Discussion with The Three Wise Guys on Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. at the Holocaust Center. Attendees will take part in this interactive interfaith dialogue featuring Rabbi Steven Engel, Imam Muhammad Musri and Rev. Brian Fulwider.

Finally, instructor Dana Kaplan will lead attendees in Yoga for Remembrance on Sunday, May 5, 11 a.m., at The Roth Family JCC. Whether you have done yoga before or not, join in this gentile, yoga class to be followed by a guided meditation.
