Florence “Fagy” Pearl Peiper (nee Jeff), age 99, of Palm Springs, Calif., and formerly of Orlando, passed away peacefully at Palm Springs Health Care and Rehab Center on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019. An Ohio native, she was born on Aug. 29, 1920, to the late Aaron and Ida Mitelsky Jeff, and was the widow of the late Albert Peiper, to whom she was married for over 66 years when he passed away in November 2006.
Florence was also predeceased by her brothers, Julius (Rose, deceased) Jeff and Robert (Paula) Jeff; and sister, Rose (Hyman, deceased) Scolnick.
Florence enjoyed fashion and was always “in style” and well-dressed. In addition, Florence was a well-known cook and baker. She took great joy in preparing meals for her family, especially during holiday times. Playing canasta, bridge and mahjong were a large part of her other favorite pastimes. She “starred” in a number of Orlando JCC plays and musicals.
Also, as a result of several trips to Israel, Florence and Albert formed an import business known as Flor-Al Imports and they sold Israeli jewelry to various Cleveland, Ohio, synagogues and retail stores. Florence was active in both the Jewish and general community in Orlando, serving as past president of the JWV Auxiliary; former treasure of Rishona-Masada Hadassah; former treasurer of Congregation Ohev Shalom Sisterhood; member of the Ohev Seniors and the JCC 39ers. She was also a house manager for the Edythe Bush and Bob Carr Theaters.
Florence, affectionately known as “Bubbi” to her family is survived by her sons, Howard (Meg) Peiper, Jeffrey (Susan) Peiper and Brian Peiper. Florence is also survived by grandchildren David (Anne) Peiper, Jacki Peiper, Marc Peiper and Jodi (Alex) Tenney, Jamie (fiancé Chad) Knorr, and Jill (Steve) Sanchez, Bylli (Maria Pirone) Peiper; and great-grandchildren Emily, Jesse, Ethan, Olivia, Rowan, Jake, Luke, Cole, Ford, Harper and Cash. Florence is also survived by nephews Alan (Barbara) Jeff, Ralph (Gloria) Stevens and Mark (Amy) Stevens; and nieces, Ilene (Bill) Gund and Dorene Jeff.
A graveside funeral service was held at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Arnold Siegel of Jewish Family Services officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of the American Heart Association.
