Dr. Zena Sulkes Freeman, 80, of Winter Park, died away on Dec. 22, 2019. She was born in Detroit and was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan. She earned her doctoral degree in education from the University of South Florida. Dr. Sulkes was an educator and taught Jewish and secular studies at all levels from pre-school through college. Notably, she served as head of school of the Jewish Academy of Orlando and director of education at Temple B’nai Israel in Clearwater and was a beloved leader within Congregation of Reform Judaism in Orlando. She loved to travel, knit, play mahjong and enjoy the company of family and friends.
Dr. Sulkes is survived by her husband, Daniel Freeman; devoted sons, Scott (Marc Ginsberg) and Neil; Dan’s daughter, Wendy (Gerard) Bradford and son, Scott Freeman; and four loving grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at Congregation of Reform Judaism with Rabbi Steven W. Engel and Cantor Jacqueline R. Menaker officiating. Burial followed in the CRJ Cemetery. Donations in memory of Zena are requested to the CRJ Camp Scholarship Fund.
