Israeli-Palestinian Peace Prospects: A View from the Palestinian street

On Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Keith Dvorchik, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando and CEO of The Roth Family JCC, and Central Florida Hillel CEO Aaron Weil will discuss their recent meetings in the West Bank with senior Palestinian leaders and residents of the West Bank. Hear about the challenges, frustrations and hope that they experienced and the varying Palestinian narratives they encountered. A Q&A session will follow.

During the first week of November 2019, Dvorchik and Weil were in Israel for the Encounter program. This program takes senior Jewish leaders for an immersive experience in the West Bank. They spent four days traveling in Bethlehem and surrounding areas, East Jerusalem, and Ramallah, meeting with a diverse array of Palestinian civil society leaders, business people, negotiators, and grassroots activists for an opportunity to hear and consider the perspectives of those who live there.

This event is free. Register online at orlandojcc.org/calendar/israeli-palestinian-peace-prospects

You’re Not Alone: Raising Successful Kids

Is intelligence something you are born with or something that develops? How does your child respond to frustration, and what should you do to help them be more resilient? How we respond to children’s failures and successes impacts how they see themselves and their place in the world. Learn how to talk to your children in such a way that they develop resilience, grit, and a growth mindset.

Join other parents for bagels and coffee as Juliana Sanchez Bloom, Ph.D., discusses “Raising Successful Kids: Why You Should Never Tell Your Kids They’re Smart and What to Say Instead,” on Jan. 15, 2020 from 9:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Dr. Bloom is a licensed psychologist and pediatric neuropsychologist who serves as a member of the board of The Levin Center and as a community consultant on issues of educational practices and policy in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Bloom’s areas of clinical interest include dyslexia, ADHD, brain injury and illness, brain development, emotional issues that affect learning, and parenting.

This discussion is free and open to the community. Free babysitting is available in Kid Zone with advanced notice for children 6 mos. and/or sitting up.

To register, email register@orlandojcc.org, visit the Registration Desk in the main lobby or call 407-621-4036.

The event will be held in Shayna’s Village at The Roth Family JCC.
