Central Florida's Independent Jewish Voice
When Penny Goldstein met Nancy Ludin at a Jewish Community Center fundraiser, she was new in Central Florida. Nancy offered her a warm invitation to meet other Jewish women through the Friends of the Jewish Pavilion. Goldstein was amazed at the volunteer opportunities available from event planning to visiting seniors. She quickly found ways she could contribute.
Mitzvah Maj with a resident at Tuskawilla Nursing & Rehab keeps Goldstein and other volunteers current on their mahjong skills. Their dedication allows the resident to continue her weekly mahjong game that she has been playing most of her life.
The Jewish Pavilion Gala committee quickly recruited Goldstein. They loved her willingness help where needed. Happily, they used her creative, artistic abilities for displays at the Gala silent auction and creation of gift baskets.
Goldstein says being part of the Jewish Pavilion has touched her heart. She loves the stories from the seniors about their lives and how the Pavilion volunteers have made a difference. She has attended Challah Bakes, luncheons, music programs and more. She loves being around other Jewish women making a difference in senior lives together.
When not volunteering with the Jewish Pavilion, Penny shares her talents as art teacher at the Jewish Academy of Orlando, served on the Jewish National Fund board as chair for Women for Israel and helped with last year's Ohev Shalom gala.
