Doloros Indek and Rabbi Yanky Majesky, as well as many others, enjoyed the kosher sandwiches at the new kosher food truck from Gili's Kitchen in Jacksonville. They didn't have to drive to Jacksonville as the truck is now going to be coming to Reiter Park in Longwood on the second Thursday of every month.
How did this come about? Beginning in January, Gili's Food Truck began serving customers in southwest Orlando in the parking lot at the Rosen JCC every Tuesday and Thursday. Rabbi Yanky Majesky asked them if they could come to Longwood and he put them in touch with the City of Longwood.
Ricki Ben Simon, Chef Gili's partner, contacted Longwood city managers and an agreement was reached allowing the kosher food truck to come to Longwood once a month.
"Our food is fresh, and we bring our kosher food to you!" said Ben Simon.
The food truck offers a medley of Middle Eastern and Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine, including both shawarma in a pita and pastrami on rye. Also on the menu is hummus with meat, beef, lamb and vegan burgers, Caesar salad, and more.
"This is a good start," said Majesky. "I hope their visits go well and maybe they or someone else will open up something permanent on this side of town."
According to Majesky, there are three kosher restaurants in southwest Orlando and three in Ormond Beach.
Gili's Kitchen Food Truck is parked at the Rosen JCC at 11184 S. Apopka Vineland Rd., Orlando, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and in Longwood the second Thursday of each month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Reiter Park is located at 311 W Warren Ave. in Longwood.
Gili's Kitchen Food Truck is kosher certified by Gesher K Chabad.
