CTeens help make Israeli bomb shelters beautiful

This time of year, while everyone is honoring Jews who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the Jewish people and the holy land, here in the U.S. must think what we can do.

This past Wednesday, CTeen of the Chabads in Maitland and North Orlando met at Nate's Shul in Longwood and volunteered for the Jewish National Fund to make cards of encouragement and art that will be used to decorate bomb shelters at the border city of Sderot.

Sderot is less than a mile from the Gaza border and has in recent years suffered the brunt of terrorist activities of fire kites and rockets. Children and families would often have to run from their daily activities to the safety of a bulky concrete bomb shelter. Over the last few years, JNF has initiated the bomb shelter beatification project bringing some light and life to what could have been a gloomy eyesore.

The high-school students used their creativity drawing, cutting and pasting to hopefully bring just a bit of joy and perhaps ease some of the anxiety in case of an emergency G-d forbid.

Rabbi Yanky Majesky and Fraidy Dubov greeted the teens and Meril Salzburg and Jeff Reinstein of JNF presented a slideshow of their activities in the holy land as well as a video showing the makeover of one of these bomb shelters.

Teens enjoyed a delicious outdoor kosher dinner and dessert, catered by Kosher Eatery in Kissimmee, and sponsored by Jim and Jill Riola.

CTeen -Chabad Teen Network - has hundreds of chapters around the world that offer educational, social, volunteer opportunities, Shabbatons and summer trips for Jewish high school students.
