Central Florida's Independent Jewish Voice
I watch this show regularly…
And I’m not ashamed to admit it! I’m talking about the Maury Povich show on television. I love watching it although everyone I know says “it’s beneath them.”
I also enjoy watching “Hoarders.” Maybe because I’m very sloppy? (Oh shut up!)
Anyway, MAURY POVICH has always been a favorite of mine and, of course, he is one of us!
I also enjoy watching SNL (Saturday Night Live) on television. I need a laugh now and then and now, now, now!
I’ve enjoyed watching particularly when the guest host is SCARLETT JOHANSSON. She is also Jewish. She recently married COLIN JOST, who is another of my favorites on SNL.
A correction from last week’s column…
ZACHARY AARON YOUSHA just graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois.
Mazel tov!
A commemoration…
This fall marks the 80th anniversary of the murder of the Jews of Kiev. (Ancestry on my mom’s side. Thank goodness, my maternal grandparent’s, uncle and aunt were already in Montreal, Canada, where my mom was born.)
When the German’s invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, approximately 160,000 Jews lived in the city. Some 100,000 Jews fled Kiev prior to the German occupation of the city on September 19, 1941. On September 29 and 30, more than 33,000 Jews were murdered in the ravine of Babi Yar, located at the edge of Kiev. This was one of the largest mass murders at an individual site during the Holocaust.
During the next months, the Germans killed thousands of Jews and non-Jews at Babi Yar. It is estimated that some 100,000 people were murdered at Babi Yar.
Let’s not forget Hungary…
In an article published in Magyar Nemzet just a few months ago, President Ambassador RONALD S. LAUDER expressed his deep concern about Hungary as he noted an upsurge throughout Europe “of that continent’s dark history of anti-Semitism.”
“There is a continuing and growing presence of Hungary’s far-right that celebrates truly evil human beings. Once again, we hear the same sick anti-Semitic, xenophobic, anti-Roma, and anti-gay slogans. We see demonstrations with the old salutes and symbols and awards and public recognition given to individuals who distort historic facts and the Holocaust.
If history has taught us anything, it should be this: When people are seduced by the darker instincts in human beings, nothing good ever comes from it. Nothing!I
Ordinary, decent, and freedom loving people who cherish positive and democratic values cannot be silent any longer. It is time for Hungarians to stand up and say. “Enough.”

Shout-out…
I try to eat lunch out at Perkins Restaurant on University Blvd, Winter Park, at least once each week because they have lots of my favorites.
And speaking of favorites… they have wonderful servers. One in particular is ASHLEY HUSKEY, a very fast server who is also accurate and super sweet. It’s nice to see her each week as well!
One for the road…
A business people joke:
The secretary was leaving the office when she saw the CEO standing by the shredder with a piece of paper in his hand. “Listen,” said the CEO, “this is a very important document. Can you make this thing work?”
The secretary turned the machine on, inserted the paper, and pressed the start button.
“Great!” said the CEO as his paper disappeared inside the machine. “I just need one copy.”
OY VAY!!!! (A shredded copy, one hopes!)
