Jewish Pavilion Tree of Life

The tree of life is a symbol of a fresh start on life, positive energy, good health and a bright future. It is a symbol of immortality and a symbol of growth and strength. A tree grows old, yet it bears seeds that contain its very essence and in this way, the tree becomes immortal.

In 2019, the leadership of the Jewish Pavilion determined that they would like to add a Tree of Life to the office décor and worked with Joanne Fink of Zenspirations to design the tree. Fink's response was immediate. She wrote "I love the idea of a Tree of Life! As you probably know I've created Tree of Life commemorations for Parkland and Pittsburgh, and I would be honored to do a Tree of Life for the Jewish Pavilion."

Special tributes to the Jewish Pavilion are now acknowledged on the office wall. A $180 leaf offers the donor a one-year opportunity to acknowledge a loved one or friend. There is also an option for a permanent engraved wooden leaf for $500. When a family chooses the Jewish Pavilion for a tribute, the gifts are cumulatively totaled. Therefore, small donations that add up to $500 also become part of the tree. Recently, Ruth Darvin and Mel Berger were married, and a leaf was ordered in their honor thanks to the donations of their numerous friends. Donors are also noted in the Jewish Pavilion monthly email newsletter.

Dolores Indek grew up in a loving household. Her father was adored by everyone, and he was extremely warm and known to be a great listener and communicator. Her mother was involved in all kinds of charitable work. The apple does not fall far from the tree. Indek has followed in her parents' footsteps and been super involved in philanthropy and community work her entire life. She is an active volunteer with the Jewish Pavilion, often visiting challenging residents who lack communication skills or helping out at Jewish Pavilion events. In honor of her beloved parents, Abe and Edyth Indek, she has donated a permanent leaf to the Jewish Pavilion Tree of Life, and recently a second leaf was donated in her honor.
