Obituary - SHELDON M. BLATTNER

Sheldon M. Blattner, 91, passed away on Dec. 16, 2021. He was born on Aug. 2, 1930, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a celebrated athlete in his youth and earned the nickname "Herky" (Hercules). He was accomplished in multiple sports and earned many trophies for his athletic prowess.

He was a hard worker and was in the scrap metal business for the majority of his life. He founded Blattner Metals/Metal Recyclers in 1978, and continued to manage the day-to-day operations until the age of 89.

Sheldon was devoted to his family and friends, and was always generous with those less fortunate. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and his great sense of humor.

Sheldon was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Anna Blattner and brother Myron Blattner.

Sheldon is survived by his son, Craig D. Blattner (Jody) of Longwood, Fla., and his daughter, Gail B. Kaplan (Larry) of Sandy, Utah. He is also survived by his grandchildren - Michael Blattner (Jennifer), Carly Haslett (Marshall), Allie Blattner, David Kaplan, Daniel Kaplan and Nathan Kaplan; and great-grandchildren - Brenna Blattner, Jacob Blattner, Levi Haslett and Isla Haslett.

A graveside service for Sheldon M. Blattner was held in the New Center Cemetery, 200 East 43rd Street Jacksonville, Florida, on Monday Dec. 20, 2021, with Rabbi Shira Rosenblum officiating. Sheldon was laid to rest next to his wife of 65 years, Irma Blattner, who preceded him in death.
