Marilyn Kaplan, age 89, of Orlando, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 16, 2022, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs. Marilyn, a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, was born on Aug. 25, 1932. She was one of three children born to the late Samuel and Pauline Morris Friedman.
Following her high school graduation, Marilyn went to work for the State of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. She married Donald Kaplan on Sept. 1, 1951, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. They were married for more than 65 years when Don passed away in 2016.
In 1966, Marilyn and Donald relocated to the Orlando area with their two sons from Massachusetts. They became active members of Congregation Ohev Shalom at that time.
Marilyn believed in serving her community, volunteering countless hours at the Central Florida Zoo.
Marilyn is survived by her son Craig (Marsha) of Winter Springs. She was predeceased by her son Kevin. Marilyn is also survived by four grandchildren — Rose of Orlando, Jonathan of Casselberry, Nova of California and Zachary of Michigan. Marilyn is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Emelia of Orlando.
Funeral services and interment were conducted at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Murray Ezring and Cantor Allan Robuck officiating.
