Central Florida's Independent Jewish Voice
Getting extra support at home can be a terrific source of relief. Agencies offer companion care such as CNA’s (certified nurse’s assistants or HHA’s Home health aides.) Normally, these individuals take a brief course on how to care for someone. Another option are skilled health care providers who have had years of schooling such as nurses, physical therapists etc. Normally, Medicare and Medicaid pays for some home care after a hospital visit.
Most home care providers will assist with transportation, cleaning cooking, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, errands, doctor’s visits, communication with health care providers etc. They may call the Orlando Senior Help Desk at the Jewish Pavilion (407) 678-9363 for referrals or to assist with finding community resources.
While most seniors face major adjustments when transitioning to an elder-care community, Jewish seniors face additional challenges. Not only do they lose their homes, and many of their friends, but they also lose ties to their cultural heritage. This is where the Jewish Pavilion, a 501c3 non-profit, steps in. The Pavilion serves as a resource that provides room visits, festive holiday celebrations, and more to 450 Jewish residents in fifty facilities for seniors. The Jewish Pavilion promotes inclusion, and thousands of seniors of all faiths are welcomed into our programs. http://www.JewishPavilion.org.
