On June 21, 2023, a potluck luncheon was held at the home of Jeff and Marci Gaeser in Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach. Thirty women, members of the Chavurah of the Chood, a Jewish friends group, attended and brought non-perishable foods for the food bank of the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties. The Federation is headed by Executive Director Rabbi Dr. Robert Lennick and President Marvin Miller. The women enjoyed fellowship and discussed future charitable efforts. All the women attending were given a # Blue Square pin, symbolizing the fight against antisemitism.
Each week the Federation, a United Way agency, provides approximately 75 families with both fresh and non-perishable food. Families receiving food are both Jewish and non-Jewish residents within the counties. Volunteers packed the non-perishables prior to the distribution date and fresh foods are added on the day of the distribution.
The Chavurah will be presenting a program in July focusing on the rise of antisemitism worldwide and how to respond.
