There was singing and dancing, Israeli and American flags flying and messages from the rabbis of four Chabad Centers at the Walt Disney amphitheater at Lake Eola on Sunday, Oct. 15, as hundreds of people from the Jewish and non-Jewish communities gathered in unity to show their love and support for Israel.
Rabbi Sholom Dubov of the Chabad of Greater Orlando encouraged the Jewish community to stay strong during an emotionally taxing time.
"There's a fundamental core [at] the very heart of what we consider humanity," said Rabbi Dubov. "And we have to address the negativity that's going on in the world."
He continued, "There are different people, different ways and different cultures, and we have to cooperate and work together."
"I just want everyone to be together in the community because that matters; it matters a lot especially for everyone back home when they see us together," one person told WFTV news channel 9. "We are stronger together."
"It's unity not only between the United States and Israel, it's for the world," another person said about the gathering. "The humanitarian effort of being united."
The amphitheater was guarded by about 12 Orlando Police Department officers on bicycles and more watching on foot.
