“Why I Love Israel” is a new course for teens and it includes a cash reward for attending.
“Did Israel steal its land? Why does it seem that Israel has so many enemies? How important is Israel to me, anyway?”
These are some of the questions that will be discussed in “Why I Love Israel” a six-lesson course from JLI Teens. The students will take a journey where they will virtually travel through the Holy Land, learn of the history, meaning and holiness of this ancient country. They will see how this faraway place is their home, and how their Jewish identity is connected to it.
“When the war with Hamas broke out, one of my own children asked me, ‘Ta, with everything going on, why do we need to stay in Israel?’ I knew there must be so many other children who have the same question,” said Rabbi Yanky Majesky of Chabad North Orlando, who will be teaching the class. “I knew we must do something to educate our local youth.”
“Why I Love Israel” will take place for 6 consecutive Sundays from 12:15 – 1 p.m., starting on Jan. 7, 2024, at Nate’s Shul in Longwood and lunch will be served.
There is no cost to attend and teens will be rewarded $17 per lesson for a total of $102 at the end of the course if the student attends at least 5 out of the 6 lessons.
The program is open to all Jewish high school students in our community. No previous knowledge or affiliation needed.
“So many of our local high school students will soon be heading to college campuses around the USA and sadly, many have toxic antisemitic and anti-Israel environments, it is crucial that our own kids understand what Israel is all about,” said Chanshy Majesky, co-director of Chabad North Orlando. “We have gotten tremendous feedback from parents to launch this course and we are thrilled and honored to do so.”
