Richard Sheldon Lazaro was born on May 18, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Louis & Judith (Koppel) Lazaro and passed on Jan. 29, 2024 at 89 years old.
He graduated college with a B.S. in accounting. He serviced in the Armed Forces and Reserves from 1956 to 1962. Later he moved to Boulder, Co. where he wrote a comic strip for the local newspaper.
He retired in Seminole County, Florida to be closer to his sister, Dorothy Berg and her four children.
He was a champion chess player and received player of the year in 1990. Richard is survived by his nephews, Gary Berg (Yang) of Casselberry; Steven Berg (Sharon) of Sanford; Jeff Berg (Vivian) of Orange City; Ron Lieberman (Debbie) of Evans, GA; and Bruce Lieberman (Marlene) of Bellevue, WA; his nieces, Rene’ Berg of Casselberry; and Dana Lieberman (Robert) Los Gatos, CA.
Funeral Services for Richard were held in the Chapel of Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel (835 Lee Road, Orlando) with Rabbi Joshua Neely of Temple Israel officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Congregation Ohev Shalom Cemetery. May he rest in peace and may his memory always be a blessing.
