It is with deep sadness that we let you know that our deeply loved father, Arnold Zarek, passed away on April 14, 2024 at the age of 94. Born in 1929 to Herman and Rose of Lafayette, Ind., his favorite subject in school was math and the relatively new technology of radio and electronics. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, attaining the rank of corporal and entering the Signal Corps (Radio School). He completed his tour of duty at the Pentagon. After graduating from his hometown Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering, Arnold started his career with the Collins Radio Company, and then with the Chance Vought Aircraft Company. In 1959 Arnold went to work for The Martin Company (later Martin Marietta, and now Lockheed Martin) in Orlando, Fla., where he worked until his retirement 30 years later.
In 1961 Arnold met and married Gertrude (Trudy) and began to raise a family. Their first child, Michael, was born in 1962 and on Mike's first birthday they moved into the house they would call home for the next 56 years until their health necessitated the move to assisted living. Their daughter, Helaine, was born in 1964.
Arnold had a keen interest in technology, radio, TV, and computers, and was known in his retirement for his love of Charlie Brown's Snoopy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 60+ years, Trudy. He is survived by his son, Mike (Jenny) and his daughter, Helaine.
A private burial will be held at Florida National Cemetery. Memorial service arrangements will be announced when they are completed.
