Jewish Pavilion Senior Services Showcase for volunteerism

Volunteerism is the engine that makes many of our communities run. Aside from the good that volunteering does for the recipients, the act of service carries benefits for the doer. Studies show that serving others provides mental health benefits, increases happiness and decreases depression and anxiety as well as provides a sense of purpose.

Jewish Pavilion Senior Services engages many individuals throughout the Greater Orlando area as volunteers who work with senior residents as service leaders or assistants, visit at facilities, help out in the office, or lend a hand during fundraising events.

When asked why volunteering for Jewish Pavilion Senior Services was important, Joan Walker, one of the dedicated volunteers, stated that she wants to honor the memory of her mother, who often stated how much she appreciated the Shabbat services, as well as the holiday gift bags that were distributed several times a year.

Walker is quite busy visiting residents in the Lake Mary area. She looks forward to seeing her friends and stated that they seem like family to her. They tell her about their careers, the highlights of their past and special memories of their lives. She expressed how the visits she makes is as meaningful to her as it is to the residents.

Anyone interested in joining the JPSS team of volunteers can simply call the office at 407-678-9363.
