Whether you want books, beef, or bucks, be sure to attend Temple Israel's Second Annual Book Fair and Corned Beef Sandwich Day on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Roth Social Hall at 50 S. Moss Road in Winter Springs.
There are thousands of donated books to choose from, organized by fiction, nonfiction, and children's books, as well as miscellaneous media such as games, puzzles, CDs, and other make-an-offer items. Hardcover books are priced at $2, while paperbacks cost $1 each. Close to 400 books were sold last year. If you have books to donate, they can be dropped off at Temple Israel's office. Call 407-647-3055 to confirm office hours.
Delicious food is the other main event. Hungry shoppers can enjoy kosher corned beef sandwiches, each filled with a half-pound of freshly sliced meat, piled high on seeded rye, and accompanied by potato salad and a sour pickle, all carefully assembled by volunteers. Lauren Brown, longtime Temple Israel member and former owner of Brown's New York Deli, which operated in Maitland and closed in 2015, cures and slices all of the corned beef. Last year, the popular sandwiches sold out, so be sure to pre-order and save money when you do! Visit http://www.templeisraelevents.com to purchase the early bird sandwich box for $18 until Oct. 20. For just $5 more, you can make it a combo, which includes a drink and a cookie. After Oct. 20 and through Oct. 26, sandwich boxes cost $20. There may be some sandwiches available to purchase the day of, but why risk it?
One thing you can take a chance on is the 50/50 raffle, which collected nearly $3,000 last year. Half of the amount collected goes toward Temple Israel's fundraiser and the other half is awarded to one lucky winner! One chance costs $20, or you can save money by purchasing a bundle. A five-ticket bundle costs $90 and saves you $10, and a ten-ticket bundle costs $170, saving you $30. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.templeisraelevents.com.
Whether shopping or sandwiching, attendees are sure to enjoy this unique event at Temple Israel.
