Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Smith, 90, Winter Park, Florida passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at Advent Health Orlando following a brief illness. Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 18, 1933, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Julius and Rose (Kaplowitz) Wilpon. Mrs. Smith was a retired secretary and office manager for Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando. She and her husband Meyer Smith of blessed memory moved to the Orlando area in 1966 from Beltsville, Maryland and later to Winter Park.
Millie as she was known as, was a dedicated wife and mother of her sons. She became very active in the Orlando Jewish Community and was a active member of Congregation Ohev Shalom for over 50 years. It was her impression with then Rabbi Rudolf Adler that motivated her to be a advocate for the Orlando Jewish Community and Central Florida. She was very active with the Jewish Sisterhood, which she served as President for many years, promoting Jewish education, social endeavors, leadership and much more. She was also a long standing member of both B’nai B’rth and Hadassah. In the mid-seventies, she actively worked on the membership committee for JCC. She said on many occasions that being devoted to Judaism was the most important aspect of her life.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving devoted sons; Eli Smith and Julius Smith both of Winter Park, Florida.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith were held in the Burton and Barbara Chasnov Pavilion at Congregation Ohev Shalom Cemetery (6034 Old Winter Garden Road, Orlando, FL) with Rabbi Geoffrey Spector of Congregation Ohev Shalom officiating. May she rest in peace and may her memory always be a blessing.
