Obituary - YVETTE LUBITZ BLUM

Yvette Lubitz Blum, aged 93½, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by immediate family and song on Nov. 9, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. Born on May 29, 1931, Yvette dedicated over six decades of her life to the field of dental hygiene, significantly impacting many through her profession and volunteer work. A graduate of Ohio State University College of Dental Hygiene, she was not only a committed dental hygienist but also a mentor and pioneer, instrumental in founding the Life Member group of the Florida Dental Hygienist Association. Her legacy in the field is immortalized in the Yvette L. Blum Mentorship Award, celebrating her dedication to nurturing future professionals.

Yvette was a cherished member of the Congregation of Reform Judaism for over 60 years, reflecting her deep faith and commitment to her community. Her life was marked by a joyous engagement with the world around her. She loved her friends, among whom are her best friend, Barbara Shargaa, who survives her, as well as many cherished friends she met through her dental hygienist profession and the plumbing association which she belonged to while her husband was alive.

She leaves behind a loving family: her children — Helaine Blum, Lonnie Blum, and Lori Blum (Ronald Miller); and granddaughter, Julienne Miller. Yvette was preceded in death by her beloved husband of blessed memory, Julius Blum, and her cherished immediate family members of blessed memory: parents, Harry and Celia Lubitz; brothers — Irving Lubitz (Stella), Philip Lubitz (Gladys), Karl Lubitz (Dorothy); sister, Dorothy Katz (Gerald).

Funeral services for Mrs. Blum were held at Congregation of Reform Judaism with Rabbi Rachael Jackson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Congregation of Reform Judaism, Pathlight HOME, the Institute for Oral Health Foundation, or St. Jude’s, honoring Yvette’s lifelong commitment to service and community.
